With the successful rebirth of 'Battlestar Galactica', it was inevitable that other television sci-fi series would get a reboot. This being one of themm, a re-envisaged vision of the eighties original series. It had been in the pipeline for a while but production has finally started with it due to air in the US sometime around the end of the 2009, start of 2010. More likely the latter. There had been a lot of talk about the series making a comeback for some time. Much talk had been about a sequel, 20 years on after the Visitors had conquered the planet. All the leading actors had talked about coming back for it, inc. Marc Singer. As in Battlestar Galactica, it wouldn't be surprising if Marc Singer didn't reappear in the series.
It is a back to the beginning story for the franchise with the aliens having just arrived. From what can be seen at the moment, the main resistance leader doesn't stand out as yet. The leader of the Visitors is Anna (a play on the name Diana) played by Morena Baccarin, who played the role of Companion in Firefly series of the early noughties. The visitors come and make friends and their objectives will be as sinister as before. They will have reptilian skins and will almost likely want to turn the planet into one big food farm. There looks like the main characters will be a television presenter instead of a cameraman, a priest and other different characters. Their ships, circular, well near circular in look have been bought into the next century. The customes are more business like than warrior like. The red suits have gone, in come grey business suits.
Kenneth Johnson, the original writer of the story had come up with a storyline and had published a book which it had been rumoured to be the basis of this series but that didn't happen. The story ignores the events of what happened in the television series sequels. For example, the woman who had fallen in love with Will, the alien. She is still alive in the book whereas she had died in the series.
